Air quality and world population: what the numbers tell us

This Saturday, 11 July, marks World Population Day, a UN observance held each year on the anniversary of the day the world's population reached five billion in 1987. This year's theme, set by UNFPA, is "Realizing the hopes and aspirations of young people – today and for the future," a fitting moment to look at how population and air quality intersect, since young people are among those most affected by the air they grow up breathing.

Our CEO co-hosted this webinar: Racing Towards Clean Air - How high can sport aim?

This covered:

- what decisions can race organisers take (hopefully ahead of time) if there are high pollution events

- how tools like AirTrack give athletes more control (which also helps with mental health)

- it's all about awareness raising, which in turn supports personal strategies for reducing exposure as well as advocacy to reduce pollution levels

- how the presentation of AQ data could be clearer, and ideally consistent internationally

- to always remember that we are encouraging sports/activity not scaring people
