Helping #TeamBreathe runners understand their air pollution exposure

Air quality matters even more when you have asthma or a lung condition. It can affect how a run feels, when you choose to train, and whether you feel confident exercising outdoors. Ahead of the London Landmarks Half Marathon, Air Aware Labs gave Asthma + Lung UK’s #TeamBreathe runners access to AirTrack Premium. The idea was to help runners see the pollution they were actually exposed to on their own training routes, not just a general air quality score for London.

This London Climate Action Week, UrbanBetter and Air Aware Labs are inviting runners and walkers to see their regular routes through a new lens.

Using a combination of fixed air quality monitors and wearable sensors, participants will help generate hyperlocal data that reveals what standard monitoring alone can’t show.

These findings will be presented at two sessions during London Climate Action Week, in front of policymakers, experts and leaders working on clean air.

We’ll meet at 2pm on the 21st of June for an approximately 5km run and walk through South London, moving between existing Breathe London stationary air quality monitors to capture hyperlocal data in the gaps between them.

As well at the Cityzens App, it would be great if all participants could download AirTrack (free, available on App Store and Google Play)
