Air Aware Labs gets planning

Welcome to the sixty-sixth edition of our newsletter, as we reach 5,000 AirTrack users, launch our route planner and take stock with our advisers! This newsletter is aimed at investors, collaborators, future hires and early adopters of our products.
This week we have been looking at how exposure varies for people out and about in cities. Firstly, with our cleaner route planner, we see users being able to reduce exposure by 20% and sometimes even more. And secondly, the time of the day really matters, as Paula Radcliffe has highlighted recently. Especially on weekdays, the difference between an activity at 6am vs 7am and at 7am vs 8am is each significant. These are the insights we bring live and constantly updated, based on an individual's situation and potential to reduce their exposure. Please join us on our mission - Personalising Air Quality, for everyone.

Hot off the press
- we've launched our Plan a Route feature! This builds on our previous route optimiser to enable AirTrackers to put in a destination and get a route recommendation with best possible air quality. It includes turn by turn navigation and will soon be available through our Garmin integration too
- tomorrow we will be at the London Diamond League meet, providing live air quality data and awareness raising - and those attending can also use our route planner to find cleaner routes to the London Stadium. Come and find us!
- and we continue to get exposure. Check out our front page of Air Quality News for our work with London Marathon, our mention in the Times Educational Supplement and the OpenAQ Inc Directory. And our attendance at the London Deputy Mayors' Air Quality roundtable, the Nexus showcase and London Data Week.

Meet the team
This edition, we are re-introducing Sacha Manson-Smith, our Chief Technology Officer and member of our founding team. Sacha says: "Being a startup CTO is thrilling and exhausting in equal measure. Here's a typical day. 8am – Check Slack to see if my colleagues in the Philippines have hit any blockers I can clear. 9am – Back from the school run, and into daily standup with Daniel Catindoy and Roy Evangelista in the Philippines. We've been building a Garmin integration with some custom Garmin metrics – a fun project spanning mobile and server, and a chance to get to know Garmin's Monkey C language. 9:30am – A clear couple of hours to work on productionising our new hyperlocal air quality model.
"12:30pm – Lunch, wherever's coolest. 1pm – as the hyperlocal model builds, I've switched to building out and documenting our APIs. We've got a range of use-cases to support - documentation coming soon! 4pm – End-of-day check-in with the London team including all the latest AirTrack improvements for sporting events like tomorrow's Diamond League. 5pm – Wrapping up with a few code reviews so the Philippines team aren't blocked when their day starts, and a quick catch-up on Slack before the kids are home from school.
"No two days look quite the same at Air Aware Labs – but whatever fills the hours, it all comes back to the same thing: helping more people breathe cleaner air."
