Plan a route feature is now live!

|

Today we're introducing a new feature on AirTrack: Plan a Route. Think of it like the traffic layer on Google Maps. You already reroute around congestion without thinking twice about it — AirTrack now lets you reroute around pollution the same way, whether you're walking, running or cycling to your destination.

How it works

Plan a route works like any navigation app, with one addition: air quality.

  • Enter your destination and choose walking, running or cycling
  • AirTrack compares your route options using our street-level air quality data
  • The cleanest route is highlighted, with a clear comparison against the fastest one
  • Get full turn-by-turn navigation the whole way there

You don't have to change your destination to change what you breathe getting there.

Why it matters if you run, cycle or commute

If you're active outdoors daily, this isn't abstract. Pollution concentrations can vary block by block depending on traffic, road layout and weather, and a systematic review of route choice and exposure found that active commuters can meaningfully change how much pollution they encounter just by taking a different street. The air you move through can affect your performance as much as how you feel — short-term exposure during exercise has been shown to reduce performance and lung function, and long-term exposure is linked to increased cardio-respiratory risk.

None of this is a reason for alarm — it's a reason to put the information somewhere useful: in the route you choose before you set off.

Availability

Plan a Route is a Premium feature. Free users can try it 5 times; Premium members have unlimited access on every journey.

What's next

We're not stopping here. Garmin integration is coming soon, bringing cleaner routes straight to your wrist for runs and rides — no need to check your phone mid-activity.

Update AirTrack today and try Plan a Route.
